Origin
Pansies occur naturally in temperate areas, often in humid places that are not exposed to direct sunlight. In the Netherlands you can find them in the wild in the dunes.

Characteristics
This mixture of different flower colors can be grown as an annual or biennial plant. The height is about 20 cm, making them suitable for planting in the front of the border, but also in flower pots.

With good care and favorable weather conditions, they can bloom for a large part of the year.

Care
Pansies always form seeds, which demand a lot of energy from the plants. Cutting away faded flowers therefore gives a richer bloom and more beautiful foliage. If the pansies do end up flowering, they can be cut short. By also giving them some food, new growth and flowering will occur in the plants; this method is called ‘rejuvenate’. Early sowing (annual): Sow February-March in a seedbed under glass. When they have formed several true leaves you can plant them out in April or May. Late sowing (biennial): Sow mid-July to mid-August in a seedbed and plant out in the fall, they will flower from the following spring.

Extra information
