Marian is a purple top variety of swede, with paler yellow flesh and a good, uniform shape. This hardy winter root vegetable has good resistance to club root and mildew. Marian stores well in a frost free shed in dry sand for use throughout the winter.

Sow seeds directly to the garden in a rich, well prepared soil bed, 13mm (1/2″) deep, 2.5cm (1″) apart. Germination takes 7-10 days. Thin to strongest seedling. Keep moist and weed free. Water frequently to avoid plants drying out.  Mulch to retain moisture and reduce competition from weeds.

Harvest the tops as you would spinach once plants are well established.
