Zinnia

1,950 د.ك

Origin
The origin of the Zinnia is North and South America, but especially Mexico, which is why this plant likes a warm and sunny place.

Characteristics
Zinnias form flowers in striking colors and with a sturdy stem, so that they do not require much support. The name ‘Dahliabloemig’ means that the flowers are filled and therefore resemble a Dahlia. They grow best in nutrient-rich, well-drained soil and tolerate drought and heat well. Butterfly lovers like to choose this richly flowering plant that also self-sows spontaneously. Breeding has resulted in more than 100 varieties with diverse flower shapes and colours. Flowering is from July to October and the height can be 50-80 cm.

Nice for the picking garden and the border.

Care
Sow indoors in March-April in a seed tray at 22-25 degrees Celsius. They usually germinate within 2 weeks. Keep 3 cm distance between the seeds, almost every seed will come up. After mid-May they can be planted outside in the garden or in planters. From the end of April it is also possible to sow outdoors in flower pots or directly in the garden. Topping the young plants will cause them to branch and produce more flowers. Always remove the spent flowers for a long-lasting bloom. When watering, it is best to leave the leaves as dry as possible, otherwise Mildew can sometimes develop.
