Stock Katz Lavender Blue (Selectable Doubles)

Grow sophisticated, lavender blue cut flowers with Stock Katz Lavender Blue seeds. This versatile single-stem stock produces long; sturdy stems topped with beautiful 1 1/2–2-inch blooms in a lovely, soft lavender blue shade.

As an early-blooming, one-cut series, Katz Lavender Blue offers good uniformity in bloom time and stem length. Expect 55–60% double-flowering plants without selection, with the possibility of increasing this through careful seedling selection.

The flowers have a peppery, clove-like flavor, making them a unique garnish for salads, desserts, and drinks. Remember, this variety produces only one flowering stem per plant, so pinching is not recommended.

Growing Tips for Your Stock Katz Lavender Blue Seeds:

Transplant (recommended): Sow ¼ inch deep into 128-cell plug flats 5-6 weeks before transplanting out into the field or protected structure. Do not pinch plants. Succession plants every two weeks for multiple harvests, as stock is a cool-weather crop. Protect from flea beetles with row covers after transplanting.

Seedling Selection for Double Flowers: To select for double-flowering plants, chill seedlings at 40-45°F (4-7°C) for 3-4 days during the cotyledon stage. Look for lighter green seedlings with an oval shape. Discard darker green or rounder cotyledon seedlings. Refer to Johnny Seeds Stock Production Guide #8227 for more details.
