Magnificent Double Blooms for Borders and Cutting

These impressive blooms are carried on long stems from early summer until well into autumn, providing a prolonged period of vibrant color. Sown early, Rudbeckia Hirta Goldilocks will often bloom in its first year, offering quick gratification for gardeners.

Detailed Germination and Growing Instructions

Germination: Sow indoors onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Just cover the seeds with a fine layer of vermiculite. Propagate at a temperature of +20°C. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Germination typically takes 10-15 days. If no germination occurs within 3-4 weeks, cold stratify by moving the seed container to a temperature of -4°C to +4°C  for 4 weeks, then return to warmth. Transplant seedlings into 8cm pots once they are large enough to handle and grow them on in cooler conditions. Plant outdoors with a spacing of 45cm (18 inches).

Growing: Rudbeckia Hirta Goldilocks prefers a moist, well-drained soil in full sun. It is crucial not to allow the soil to dry out, so mulch if your soil is prone to drying. Deadhead regularly to extend the flowering period and encourage the development of more blooms. If you wish to prevent self-seeding, be sure to deadhead spent flowers.

Keeping Blooms Coming: Rudbeckia Hirta Goldilocks stems grow from a cluster at the plant’s base. To encourage the development of more stems and thus more flowers, make harvest cuts at the base of the stem, two to three inches above ground level. For the brightest and freshest cut flowers, harvest them just after the petals have unfolded.
