Sprinkle seeds thinly over the soil surface and lightly cover with 1/8 inch of soil. Keep the soil moist until seedlings emerge. For indoor starting, sow on the surface of a seed starting mix and gently press down; provide light for germination. Transplant carefully when seedlings are small, as poppies have a taproot that dislikes disturbance. Thin seedlings to 8-12 inches apart once they are established. Allow spent flowers to form seed pods for self-sowing.
