Peanuts

This peanut plant grows into a 5 cm high shrub. After 2 months, yellow self-pollinating flowers start to grow. The flower stalks continue to grow and sink down into the ground, where the peanuts develop. The peanuts can be harvested after about 5 months.

Peanuts do not have to be winterized. When the plants start to lose their colours and wither, the peanuts can be dug up. Spread out the peanuts to dry for two days and separate them from their shells. Since the plant is annual, in the spring you can sow some of the harvested peanuts and grow new ones. The remaining peanuts can be roasted in an oiled pan, salted to taste and eaten.
