Grow Sweet and Flavorful Peanuts Valencia in Your Garden

Discover the delightful taste of Peanuts Valencia, a preferred type for many natural peanut butters due to its natural, sweeter flavor. These red-skinned peanuts are well-suited for growing in dry, sandy, and well-drained soil under open field conditions. A notable characteristic of Valencia peanuts is that they often come three to four nuts in a single shell and yield a longer peanut compared to some other varieties. They also have a thinner shell, making them easier to enjoy.

Naturally Sweet Flavor, Perfect for Peanut Butter

Peanuts Valencia are celebrated for their distinctively sweet and natural flavor, making them a top choice for crafting delicious homemade peanut butter without the need for added sugars. Their unique taste will elevate your snacks and recipes.

High Yield with Multiple Nuts Per Shell

Enjoy a bountiful harvest as Peanuts Valencia plants often produce shells containing three to four flavorful nuts. This higher yield per shell makes them a rewarding variety to grow in your home garden.

Thinner Shell and Longer Peanut

Compared to some other peanut varieties, Peanuts Valencia feature a thinner shell, which makes them easier to open and enjoy. They also tend to be longer in shape, offering a satisfying crunch and texture.

Easy to Grow in Warm, Sunny Conditions

Peanuts thrive in warm, sunny locations with sandy, open, and well-drained soil. Direct sow seeds from mid-May to the first of June, approximately 5cm (2 inches) deep and every 12.5 cm (5 inches) apart in rows spaced 90cm (3 feet) apart. Ensure the soil temperature reaches at least 21°C before sowing. Thin seedlings to 25 cm (10 inches) apart after germination, which typically occurs in 1-2 weeks. Keep plants evenly watered and the area well-weeded throughout the growing season.

Harvesting and Curing for Optimal Flavor

Allow the Peanuts Valencia plants to mature as long as possible in the fall. Dig up the entire plant after the first frost begins to affect the foliage. As freshly harvested peanuts have a high water content, it’s crucial to hang the entire plant(s) in a well-ventilated space like a garage or basement to air dry completely – this process is called curing. Do not rush this drying stage, as the drier the peanuts are, the easier and more flavorful they will be to roast. Once cured, you can remove the shells and roast the peanuts at 175-190°C for 15 to 20 minutes. If roasting peanuts still in the shell, increase the roasting time to 20 to 25 minutes.
