Buddleja davidii – Buddleia, Butterfly Bush

A strong growing easy to raise shrub producing fragrant plumes  which are much loved by butterflies. Saved from named varieties.  Height & Spread: 8x 6ft (240x180cm).

Feed and water container-grown plants regularly. Buddleja planted directly into borders will require only occasional attention. In spring, prune Buddleja plants back to a permanent low framework of 3 or 4 buds from the base of the plant. Deadhead faded buddleja flowers to prolong the flowering season.

Pre-chilling the seed before sowing by mixing it with a little damp compost or Seed starting or coco peat do not cover the seeds, sealing it in a polythene bag and placing it in the fridge (not freezer) for 4 weeks can often help hasten germination.. Make sure that the compost is moist but not wet and seal in a polythene bag until after germination which usually takes 20-30 days at 21-24C (70-75F). The seed they need the light to germinate .

Transplant when large enough to handle into 8cm (3in) pots. Later plant out 2m (6ft) apart into any reasonable soil in full sun.
