Growing Your Onion Unzen Flat
Onions are typically started indoors 8-12 weeks before the anticipated planting-out time, usually around 3-4 weeks after the last frost in cooler climates. Sow seeds 1/4 inch deep.
Maintain an ideal germination temperature of 45-80°F, with sprouts appearing in 7-14 days. Transplant seedlings outdoors into rich, moist soil, spacing them 4-6 inches apart in a location that receives 6-12 hours of sun daily.
Unzen Flat onion is frost hardy, allowing for planting in early spring or even late fall in some regions.
