Enjoy Early Lilac Blooms
Add a beautiful splash of lilac color to your garden with Lobelia Riviera Lilac (*Lobelia erinus*). This compact lobelia variety is known for its extra early flowering, blooming approximately 15 days sooner than standard types, giving you an extended season of lovely lilac flowers.
Its naturally ball-shaped and mounded habit makes it an excellent choice for creating vibrant displays in flower beds, mixed combinations, borders, containers, and color bowls. Reaching a height of just 5 inches (13cm) and spreading to about 8 inches (20cm), it’s perfect for adding low-growing color and texture to various garden settings.
This lobelia is also relatively low maintenance and somewhat tolerant of frost (though protection in colder climates is advised).
For successful germination of Lobelia Riviera Lilac, remember that these tiny seeds need light to sprout, so do not cover them with soil or any other planting medium. Simply press them lightly onto a sterilized packaged soil mix in cell packs or flats and maintain a temperature between 70-80 Degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 21-27°C).
Germination typically occurs in about 20 days. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them in small clumps, spacing them about 6 inches apart. This lobelia thrives in a location with partial shade or protection from the hot afternoon sun and prefers average to evenly moist conditions, but be careful to avoid standing water.
Fertilize every two weeks during the growing season. While adaptable to various soil types and pH levels, consistent moisture and protection from intense heat will encourage the best performance.
