Enjoy a Colorful and Versatile Red & Green Salad Bowl Lettuce Mix
Grow your own nutritious and attractive salads with the Lettuce Salad Bowl Red & Green mix. This easy-to-grow blend provides a delightful combination of red and green leaves, rich in Vitamins A, B, C, and K, offering both visual appeal and excellent nutritional value.
You can easily cultivate this lettuce as baby leaves for tender, early harvests or allow it to mature into loose leaf heads. Known for its crisp and tender texture and good resistance to bolting, this mix thrives in rich, well-drained soil, providing harvests throughout the summer.
The vibrant mix of colours makes for a particularly attractive and tasty salad.
For outdoor cultivation, sow seeds thinly from October to November directly into well-prepared, fertile, and moisture-retentive soil that has been pre-watered. Plant seeds at a depth of 1.5cm (½”) with 25cm (10″) spacing between rows. If sowing early in the season, cloche protection may be beneficial.
Expect seedlings to emerge within 7 to 14 days. If you are aiming for mature loose leaf lettuce, thin seedlings to a final spacing of 20cm (8″) apart. No thinning is required if you plan to harvest primarily as baby leaves. Ensure consistent watering until the plants are well-established.
For a continuous supply, make regular sowings every two to three weeks. When harvesting, you can either cut a few leaves from each plant for baby leaf salads, allowing them to regrow for multiple harvests, or cut the entire mature heads. For a unique culinary twist, try braising, sautéing, or stir-frying these versatile lettuce leaves.
