Sowing Instructions: Direct sow lettuce seeds outdoors from November into well-prepared, fertile, moist soil in a location that receives sun or semi-shade. Sow seeds thinly at a depth of 1cm (½ inch) in drills spaced 30cm (12 inches) apart in soil that has been raked to a fine tilth. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to a final spacing of 30cm (12 inches). It is advisable to cover young plants with protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects. Make regular sowings every few weeks for a continuous supply of fresh lettuce leaves.
