Experience the Award-Winning Beauty of Lavender Ellagance Purple
Discover the exceptional performance of Lavender Ellagance Purple seeds, a Fleuroselect Gold Award-winning variety renowned for its first-year flowering capability. Unlike many lavenders, ‘Ellagance Purple’ produces stunning, deep purple flower spikes in its very first season. The blooms are held aloft on bushy, uniform, and well-branched plants, creating a visually appealing and fragrant display. This variety is also an excellent alternative to vegetative types, offering reliable growth and abundant flowering.
Key Features and Benefits:
- First-Year Flowering: Enjoy beautiful, deep purple lavender blooms in your garden’s first year.
- Large, Dense Flower Spikes: The deep purple flowers bloom on impressively sized and densely packed spikes, creating a rich visual impact.
- Bushy, Uniform, and Well-Branched Plants: Expect a consistent and attractive plant habit, perfect for borders, containers, and mass plantings.
- Alternative to Vegetative Varieties: Offers the reliable performance and uniformity often associated with vegetative propagation, but from seed.
- Edible Flowers: The sweet and floral-flavored flowers can be used to garnish desserts, enhance baked goods, and complement citrus, berries, nuts, mint, and cinnamon.
- Highly Fragrant: Immerse yourself in the classic, soothing aroma of English Lavender.
- Fleuroselect Gold Award Winner: This prestigious award recognizes superior breeding and garden performance.
Growing Information:
Transplant Recommended: Sow seeds 1/8 inch deep in a flat 8-10 weeks before planting outside. Lavender seeds require some light for germination, so do not cover them too heavily. Maintain a temperature of 65–70°F (18–21°C) for optimal germination, which typically takes 14-21 days. Transplant seedlings to individual pots once they are large enough to handle. Transplant to the garden in spring after the danger of frost has passed, spacing plants 12-18 inches apart in rows 24-36 inches apart. Plant shallowly, ensuring the soil line is just above the top roots.
Growing Conditions: Plant in a sunny location (at least 6 hours of direct sun daily) with light, well-drained, gravelly soil. Lavender prefers a slightly acidic to slightly alkaline soil pH (ideally between 6.5 and 8.3). If your soil pH is below 6.5, amend with lime. Provide a protected, south-facing location if possible. Water sparingly once established, as lavender is drought-tolerant. Avoid overwatering, especially in heavy soils.
Care and Maintenance: In late fall, clip plants back to below the flower stems and mulch heavily in colder regions. During the second year and subsequent years, cuttings can be taken from semi-hardened stems in late summer or early fall (August-November), before a hard freeze.
Harvesting: Harvest flower spikes on a dry, warm, sunny day just as the flowers are about to open for the best fragrance and drying. Hang them upside down to dry in a dry, well-ventilated space out of direct sunlight.
