Kale White Russian
Discover the delightful Kale White Russian (*Brassica napus*), known for its beautifully ruffled blue-green leaves accented by attractive white ribs. This variety stands out for its leaves that remain remarkably tender even when fully mature.
White Russian kale is also frost-tolerant and produces abundant harvests. Packed with nutrients and incredibly easy to grow, it’s a fantastic choice for any gardener. Its striking appearance makes it a beautiful addition to baby leaf salads, especially when paired with the vibrant Red Russian kale.
For successful growth, sow seeds ¼ inch (6mm) deep, spacing plants 18 inches (48 cm) apart with 24 inches (61 cm) between rows. Expect sprouts to emerge in 7-14 days. Plant in rich, well-drained soil, choosing a location with full sun to part shade, particularly as the weather begins to cool.
In regions with hot summers, starting seeds indoors around October and transplanting when cooler conditions arrive can be beneficial. Ensure consistent watering for optimal growth.
Harvest by cutting the outer leaves from the bottom of the plant as needed, allowing the central stem to continue producing new leaves. White Russian kale matures in approximately 50 days.
