Growing Information & Cultivation Advice:
- Plant Height: 36-48 inches
- Plant Spread: 36-48 inches
- Maturation Days: Approximately 80 days from transplant.
- Soil Temperature for Germination: Optimal between 24-27°C.
- Germination Lighting: Do NOT Cover Seeds, as light is required for germination.
- Germination Days: Expect seedlings to emerge in 5-10 days.
- Planting Method: Transplant (recommended for best results).
Detailed Sowing & Care Instructions:
- Starting Indoors: Sow seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before your last expected frost date. Lightly press seeds onto the surface of a good quality seed-starting mix in trays; **do not cover** as they need light to germinate.
- Light for Seedlings: As soon as seedlings emerge, provide ample light. Place them on a sunny windowsill or 3-4 inches beneath fluorescent plant lights (on for 16 hours/day, off for 8 hours). Raise lights as plants grow; incandescent bulbs are too hot.
- Potting Up: If growing in small cells, transplant seedlings to 3 or 4-inch pots once they have at least 2 pairs of true leaves to allow for strong root development before moving to the garden.
- Hardening Off: Before planting in the garden, gradually accustom young plants to outdoor conditions over a week. Move them to a sheltered outdoor spot, protecting them from harsh wind and direct hot sun initially. Cover or bring containers indoors if frost threatens, then return them outside in the morning.
- Final Planting: Transplant hardened-off seedlings to their final garden location after all danger of frost has passed, ensuring well-drained soil and full sun exposure. Space plants 36-48 inches apart to accommodate their mature size.
