Robin Hood Dwarf Fava Beans
If you’ve longed to grow fava beans but are limited on space, Fava Bean Robin Hood is the perfect solution! This remarkable dwarf variety grows to a compact height of just 12-18 inches, making it ideal for tight garden spaces and container gardening – a fraction of the size of traditional fava beans.
Despite its smaller stature, Robin Hood produces generously sized pods filled with 4 to 6 delicious beans each. Harvest the tender and tasty broad beans when the pods begin to swell. For a continuous supply, sow seeds sequentially from spring through summer. The seeds are a distinctive green color, with approximately 20 seeds per ounce.
For successful cultivation, sow seeds directly in the garden as soon as the soil can be worked in the spring. Plant seeds 1-2 inches deep and 3-6 inches apart, with rows spaced 12-30 inches apart. Fava beans prefer cool weather and can even be fall-sown in zones 6 and above for an early spring harvest.
Ensure consistent watering, especially during warmer periods. Harvest the pods when fully formed but still soft and green for shelling beans. Enjoy the delicious, homegrown flavor of these space-saving fava beans!
