Vibrant Dianthus Sweet Red for Cool Season Cut Flower Production
Introducing the NEW! Dianthus Sweet Red F1, a high-quality conventional pelleted seed variety specifically bred for cool season cut flower production. This robust plant produces impressive 2 to 5-inch rounded clusters of single-petaled, deep red blooms, noted for being slightly lighter and brighter than ‘Sweet Black Cherry’. Ideal for greenhouse and high-tunnel environments, it also performs exceptionally well in open fields.
This F1 hybrid offers reliable first-year flowering and does not require vernalization, blooming approximately 4 weeks earlier than the ‘Amazon’ variety in trials. Expect high-yielding plants with strong, long stems, typically reaching 18 to 36 inches, and fragrant blooms that can last up to 14 days in a vase.

Growing Information
Days to Germination: 7-14 days at 65-72°F (18-22°C)
Sowing (Transplant Recommended): Sow 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost. Lightly press seeds into the growing medium. Transplant seedlings into cell packs or 3-4 inch containers 20-25 days after sowing. Harden off and transplant outdoors 6-8 weeks after sowing. Maintain cool temperatures of 50-55°F (10-13°C) for optimal growth. Avoid warm temperatures above 65°F (18°C), especially at night, to prevent soft growth.
Direct Seed: Sow early spring when a light frost is still possible.
Light Preference: Sun
Plant Height: 18–36 inches
Plant Spacing: Follow general Dianthus spacing recommendations (typically 6 inches).
Hardiness Zones: Tender perennial (often grown as an annual for cut flower production)
Harvest: Harvest when 10-20% of flowers in the cluster or spray are open.
