Attract Hummingbirds with Cypress Vine
Enhance your garden with the delicate beauty of Cypress Vine White (*Ipomoea quamoclit*), an annual vine that produces masses of elegant, pure white five-pointed flowers. This variety is a favorite among hummingbirds, as well as attracting bees and butterflies, making it a wonderful addition to any pollinator-friendly garden.
Ideal for sunny locations, Cypress Vine White is perfect for training along fences, trellises, or cascading from pots and containers, adding a touch of vertical interest and charm to your outdoor spaces.
Please note that the seeds of this plant are poisonous if ingested, so handle with care and keep away from children and pets.
For successful growth, sow Cypress Vine White seeds directly into your garden once the soil has warmed up to at least 21°C (70°F) and the location receives a minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. To speed up germination, it’s recommended to carefully nick the hard seed coat with a sharp knife or nail clippers (being cautious not to damage the embryo) and then soak the seeds in room temperature water overnight (but no longer than).
Plant the treated seeds about 1.3 cm (1/2″) deep and ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period. Once seedlings emerge, thin them as needed to provide adequate space and air circulation.
While Cypress Vine may start growing slowly, it will quickly establish and begin its vigorous climbing. Due to its rapid growth, occasional cutting back and thinning can help prevent overly dense foliage and promote better air circulation, reducing the risk of fungal diseases.
Plant in well-draining soil and be mindful of watering – yellowing leaves can be a sign of either insufficient sunlight or overwatering. Feed plants once per week to support healthy growth and abundant flowering.
