Coriander Cilantro Lemon Seeds: Dwarf Variety with Zesty Lemon Notes
Discover the delightful Coriander Cilantro Lemon, a unique dwarf variety of coriander (Coriandrum sativum) that offers a subtle and unusual hint of lemon in both its fragrance and flavor. Rich in Vitamins A and C, this versatile herb provides fresh, aromatic leaves to use as cilantro in salads and Asian dishes, adding a zesty twist. As the plant matures, its flowers will produce coriander seeds that can be dried and ground, perfect for flavoring cooked dishes.
- Subtle Lemon Scent and Flavor:
- Offers a unique and refreshing lemon undertone in both its aroma and taste, setting it apart from traditional cilantro.
- Adds a bright and zesty dimension to your culinary creations.
- Dual Use: Cilantro Leaves and Coriander Seeds:
- Harvest the fresh leaves and stalks to use as flavorful cilantro in your favorite dishes.
- Allow the mature flowers to develop into coriander seeds for drying and grinding as a spice.
- Dwarf Coriander Variety:
- A compact growth habit makes it ideal for smaller gardens and container growing, including on a light windowsill indoors.
- Rich in Vitamins A and C:
- Provides nutritional benefits in addition to its delightful flavor and aroma.
- Suitable for Indoor and Outdoor Growing:
- Coriander Cilantro Lemon is versatile for growing outdoors during cooler months and indoors year-round with sufficient light.
- Continuous Supply with Successive Sowings:
- Make sowings every two to three weeks to ensure a consistent harvest of fresh cilantro leaves.
- Sowing Instructions:
- Outdoors: Sow thinly, September-October, directly into finely prepared, warm, well-drained soil that has already been watered, 0.5cm (¼”) deep. Seedlings usually appear in 14-21 days. Thin seedlings to 20cm (8″) apart. Water well until plants are established. For a continuous supply, make sowings at two to three-week intervals.
- Indoors: Grow all year round, sow thinly 0.5cm (¼”) deep in small pots of compost. Water well and place in a warm position, ideally 15-20°C (60-68°F). Plants can be grown on a light windowsill.
- Harvesting and Use:
- Harvest: Indoor crops all year round, outdoor crops from October. Pick a few leaves as required from each plant so that they will regrow quickly. For the best flavor, use fresh. They may be dried or frozen, but flavor will be diminished.
- Culinary Uses: Can be used in curries, chutneys, or salads. When cooking, add the bruised leaves at the last minute to retain maximum flavor. The mature flowers will produce coriander seeds that can be dried and ground for flavoring cooked dishes.
