Chrysanthemum Bright Eye
Add a vibrant and eye-catching display to your garden with Chrysanthemum Bright Eye (*Chrysanthemum carinatum*), also known as Painted Daisy. This annual produces compact, bushy plants adorned with spectacular bright 7 cm (3″) white blossoms featuring contrasting and bold rings of red and yellow. Perfect for creating showy displays in borders and containers, planting ‘Bright Eye’ in masses will make a truly bold statement in your landscape.
To enjoy a prolonged flowering period, be sure to deadhead spent blooms regularly. These striking flowers also make a beautiful and colorful addition to fresh cut-flower arrangements. Please be aware that all parts of the Chrysanthemum Bright Eye plant are poisonous if ingested, so exercise caution, especially around children and pets.
For successful cultivation, Chrysanthemum Bright Eye seeds can be sown directly into your garden once the soil temperature reaches a consistent warmth above 18°C (65°F) and the chosen location receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Plant the seeds at a shallow depth of 3 mm (1/8 inch) with a close seed spacing of 6 mm (1/4 inch).
Ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged during the germination period. Once seedlings emerge and develop a few sets of leaves, thin them out to allow for good air circulation and ample growing space (aim for a final spacing of around 20-30 cm or 8-12 inches). For those desiring earlier blooms, seeds can be started indoors about 4-6 weeks before the last expected frost or your desired outdoor planting time.
Be sure to harden off indoor-started seedlings before transplanting them outside. Monitor your plants regularly and water them as needed to keep the soil evenly moist. Feeding your Chrysanthemum Bright Eye plants once per week can encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering. Pinching back the early flower buds when the plants are about 15-20 cm (6-8 inches) tall can promote bushier growth and lead to more blooms.
Expect the first flowers to appear approximately 90 days after sowing.
