Grow Giant Crisp Celery Tendercrisp

Experience the impressive size and quality of Celery Tendercrisp, a giant Pascal-type variety maturing in 90 to 105 days. This heavy-yielding celery forms a tall, compact plant reaching 24 to 26 inches in height, crowned with a large head of smooth, thick, and dark green stalks.

Tendercrisp is not only productive but also shows resilience, exhibiting resistance to boron and magnesium deficiencies and some tolerance to western celery mosaic virus. Enjoy the crisp texture and excellent flavor of this robust celery in your culinary creations.

Start transplants indoors in July. Maintain a soil temperature between 55-85°F for germination, which can be slow, taking up to three weeks.

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Celery seeds require light to germinate, so do not cover them. Space transplants 6 to 10 inches apart, with rows 24 inches apart, once seedlings are 3-5 inches tall and the weather is cool.

Celery thrives in rich soil loaded with organic matter and a pH around 6.5. It is a heavy feeder, so ensure adequate nutrients. Consistent watering is crucial to prevent bitterness and fibrous stalks, as celery has shallow roots. Harvest stalks individually or cut the entire plant at the base.

Tendercrisp stalks grow to about 12 inches tall, with the whole plant reaching approximately 26 inches.
