TROPICA – Tamarind (Tamarindus indica) – 4 Seeds

Worth knowing: The Tamarind can be cultivated as an ever-green tub plant. The light green, scenting leaves produce 10 to 20 pinnate leaf pairs. The beautiful, orchid-like flowers are yellowish in colour with red Markings.

Origin: The plant originates from Africa. Nowadays, it can be found in all Tropical countries.

Propagation: The plant requires a very bright location and can be moved in a sunny outdoor position during summer.

Place / Light: Seeds can be started indoors at any time throughout the year. Leave the seeds to soak in water at room temperature overnight and press them into cultivation soil just slightly underneath the surface. Keep the soil evenly moist and warm (20° to 25°C). First seedlings will appear just after about 10 days.

Care: Water evenly during spring and summer but avoid waterlogging. Water only moderately during winter. Provide the plant with liquid bonsai-fertilizer every 4 weeks from April until the beginning of October.

Winter period: Pruning should be carried out during the main growing season from May until August. If you want the plant to grow thicker branches upon which new shoots develop, leave them to grow 10 to 12 pinnate leaves. Prune them back afterwards with 1 to 2 leaves remaining. In case you want the plant to grow branches of normal size, wait until 5 to 6 leaves have been produced and prune them back with 1 to 2 leaves Remaining.
