The red-leaved Japanese maple comes from Japan and grows broadly bushy with umbrella-like inclined branches. It forms beautiful, red colored leaves.

Sowing
Before sowing, soak in lukewarm water for approx. 2 – 3 days and then place in a container with sand that should never dry out. Now place the seeds for 3 – 5 weeks at 4 – 6 ° C, preferably in the refrigerator.

Germination Mix
the seeds with a spoon every 4 – 5 days and after the 3 – 5 weeks sow them on earth and cover with sand approx. 1 cm. The first seedlings appear after about 3 – 4 weeks.

Culture
This process is called stratifying. The seeds germinate very unevenly, so do not dispose of the pot until you have enough plants. Now put the plants in light.

Location
Japanese maple loves a partially shaded to sunny location, they should be very bright. A year-round cultivation in the open air – in the garden or on the balcony – is recommended.

Flowering time
Japanese maple does not produce flowers or fruits. However, they enchant with their beautifully red colored leaves.

Use
In the garden, the Japanese maple can reach a maximum height of 3 – 5 m, depending on the cut.

Tip
Although the sapling grows slowly, you should be fertilized regularly during the growing season in spring.
