Growing Your Holy Chocolate Bubblegum Basil

For best germination (5-10 days), sow seeds at 65-70°F (18-21°C). Direct sow (recommended): Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep, 2-3 seeds per inch, in rows 18 inches apart. Firm soil gently.

Thinning to 4-8 inches apart encourages full plants. Note: Holy Basil needs some light for germination, so sow more shallowly. Transplant: Sow indoors 6 weeks before setting out, 1/4 inch deep at 70°F (21°C). Transplant outdoors after 3-4 sets of leaves appear, spacing 4-8 inches in rows 18 inches apart.

Choose a sunny location with moderately rich, moist soil. Consistent watering is crucial as basil is not drought tolerant and can suffer from heat stress. Space plants 4-8 inches apart.

Begin light harvesting once plants are established, ideally in the cooler morning. For a full harvest, cut the entire plant 4-6 inches above the ground before flowering to promote a second growth.

Handle leaves gently when harvesting. Do not store below 50°F (10°C).
