Suståne Compost Tea Bags are filled with a high quality compost that is the basis for great soil in this OMRI listed fertilizer/soil amendment. The pathogen and weed free compost in these bags is made without bone or blood products. These 21-gram tea bags provide a powerful, effective and effortless way to give your plants a controlled dose of nutrients in either a foliar or soil application.

There are many benefits to using Suståne Compost Tea Bags as a foliar application (compost tea) or as a soil application (roto feeder) including:

    • The compost in these bags is packed with beneficial micro-organisms that rapidly multiply during the brewing process while converting the available nutrients to a water soluble form that plants love.
    • This nitrogen-rich liquid fertilizer is readily available for the plant to use, resulting in rapid response and improvement in overall plant health.
    • These permeable and biodegradable paper packets require no additional measuring or equipment.
    • The tea bag stimulates root growth, which gives the plant improved water holding capacity and nutrient uptake capabilities.
    • Increased root growth enhances the soil by providing increased porosity and stability, allowing for improved water retention and drought resistance.
    • Healthier soil can better suppress plant pathogens and protect itself from changes in soil pH.

These easy-to-use tea bags will bring new life to your soil and you will see that reflected in no time in the bright, beautiful blooms and fruits that will appear!

Suståne Compost Tea Bags are designed to be used in dual applications. They can be left to steep in water and applied as a Compost Tea Brew (either as a foliar spray or a soil drench) or it can be placed in the soil or potting mix as a Root Zone Feeder Pack.
Compost Tea:

    1. Place 1 tea bag into a container with water (generally 1 tea bag per 1 gallon of water). The water should be between 60-100°F.
    2. (Optional) Add an inexpensive fish tank bubbler and turn on periodically to keep the water aerated. CAUTION: do not leave the bubbler running unattended; this will cause the brew to become foamy and it may overflow the container.
    3. Allow the compost tea to sit (or steep) for at least 12-24 hours. This allows time for the microbial populations to multiply and breakdown the organic nutrients. Use compost tea brew within 36 hours of placing the tea bag in the water. The brew will become anaerobic once the microbes have consumed all of the oxygen in the water.
    4. Using the normal amount as you would when watering the plant, apply to plant leaves and roots.
    5. Do not spray compost tea brew directly onto existing fruits and vegetables. Use brew before plants begin to set fruit.
    6. Once all of the brew is used, you can place the leftover pouch in the garden or beneath a plant to eke out the remaining benefits of the fertilizer. Or you can add the pouch to your existing compost to help boost the composting process.
    7. Reapply fresh tea weekly.

Root Zone Feeder Pack:

Place into the root zone of potted or bed-grown plants at the time of planting or when re-potting. After plants are established, reapply once every 3-4 months during routine fertilization maintenance.

      • Pots and Hanging Baskets: Add 1 Feeder Pack per 1 gallon pot prior to introducing the plant; 2 packs per 2 gallon pots.
      • Vegetable & Flower Transplants: Place 1 Feeder Pack in the hole beneath the plant prior to planting transplants.
      • Flowerbeds and Perennials: Place 1 Feeder Pack 2-4 inches below soil surface within 6″ radius of plant stem or midway between stem and drip line of canopy.
      • Shrubs & Young Trees: Install 1 Feeder Pack per every 12″ of plant height prior to planning shrubs and trees, 6″ below soil surface midway between stem and drip line.
      • Irrigation Systems: Place 1 Feeder Pack in the Y-Strainer of a standard in-ground irrigation system. Replace Feeder Pack monthly.
