Already “popping out” the peas, ie removing the small, delicious balls from the pod, is unknown to many these days and takes a bit of time. But you will be rewarded with a very special taste experience. Especially if the freshly harvested peas are from your own garden. The very early May peas are best suited for fresh consumption, i.e. for soups and vegetable dishes. But the very early May peas are not only delicious, they are also very healthy . They contain many proteins, carbohydrates and valuable minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc – with very little fat!
Sow the seeds very early directly outdoors. Seed depth 5 cm, seed spacing 2 cm, row spacing 25-30 cm. Important: You do not need to give extra fertilizers , the normal green manure for soil preparation is sufficient. Ideal bed neighbors are lettuce, cabbage, carrots, radishes and beetroot.
